Bovelles's conception of the human subject, and the importance therein of cognition, have been analysed in a number of studies focusing on the De sapiente: see Emmanuel Faye, Philosophie et perfection de l'homme: de la Renaissance à Descartes (Paris, Vrin, ), Part II; Faye, ‘De la dignité de l'homme selon Charles de Bovelles’, in La Author: Kathryn Banks.
